Greif is proud to launch its new EcoBalance™ product line which includes drums and other shipping containers made using approximately 75%+ recycled HDPE obtained from post-consumer shipping containers. One of the initial offerings from the EcoBalance™ product line includes the tight head GP55 drum made in Bradley, IL. This drum meets the competitive performance of standard drums with an Y1.6 liquid UN rating.
Containers made from post-consumer recycled resin (PCR) significantly reduce the need to use virgin resin. They also require less energy to manufacture than it takes to make virgin plastic from fossil fuels and divert materials headed to landfills by repurposing them into new products. Greif’s line of PCR containers saves 30–53% CO2 emissions. The EcoBalance™ product line supports many of our customers’ sustainability goals including reducing carbon emissions, energy consumption and diverting waste from landfills.
“Increasing pressures for more sustainable packaging has caused our customers to look for a more environmentally friendly product,” explains Kevin Kling, Product Management & Development Director for Greif. “From a scientific standpoint, using PCR makes all the sense in the world. It creates a greater positive impact than other choices and with the UN rating customers don’t have to sacrifice performance to have green packaging.”
Greif customers should contact their account manager with any questions and look for additional product and production sites in the near future.
