Greif’s Rigid Industrial Packaging and Services team in Chino, CA, (formerly located in Ontario, CA) continues on its impressive run of safety excellence. The team earned its tenth Chairman’s Safety Excellence Award for its safety performance in 2018, the longest consecutive award-winning performance for a Greif facility in North America. The Greif award is presented annually to facilities that score 90 percent or higher on a third-party safety audit and achieve a medical case rate of zero during an entire fiscal year. The Chino team has gone more than 10 years of operation without any medical cases, strongly supporting Greif’s aspiration of zero accidents.
“Greif Chino gives 113 percent effort every day with the positive warrior mindset—taking ownership and accountability and striving for continuous improvement,” said Daniel Whitney, plant manager in Chino, CA. “Each colleague has the right to return home to their loved ones each day. With focus on continuous improvement and achieving results, zero accidents is possible for any facility.”
Success in safety at the Chino facility starts at the beginning of each day with a safety discussion. Each team member is asked to engage in the discussion, so every perspective is included, which strengthens their ability to maintain a safety culture. Each member of the team also is assigned a safety mentor, so everyone has a colleague specifically assigned to looking out for their safety.
The Chino warehouse was recently relocated from Ontario, CA to Chino, CA. The relocation, which included moving a full line of Greif’s steel, plastic, fibre, IBC products and specialty items, was successfully completed during a three-week period in April 2019, without missing any customer deliveries.
