Greif colleagues from its recycling plants in Nashville, TN and Chattanooga, TN attended the Environmental Show of the South, the most comprehensive environmental conference and tradeshow in the region. The annual event was held in mid-May at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The event provides high-quality, low-cost environmental training for attendees as well as providing updates on government & industry developments and trends. The conference brings together various members of the recycling and solid waste industry, allowing for collaboration and learning.
“The majority of the breakout sessions pertained to hazmat waste or other environmental issues that are creating challenges in the industry today,” said Danny Morgan, recycling sales associate at Greif’s Chattanooga Recycling Plant. “We utilize our training to help businesses around our region to recycle at the most efficient capacity.”
The Environmental Show of the South covers all forms of recycling. It allowed Greif to gain knowledge, but also spread knowledge to benefit other businesses focused on environmental sustainability.
“It is an excellent opportunity for us to network with other recyclers to make us a more well-rounded service provider diverting material from the landfill. The event also allows us the opportunity to explore current needs and address issues other businesses are experiencing with their recycling program to make them stronger,” said Seth Martin, account manager at Greif’s Nashville Recycling plant.
Greif’s core sources of recovered fiber come from cardboard, office paper, plastics, mixed paper, newspaper and specialty rolls. Greif’s recycling services collect, sort and process the waste paper for reuse. Its Nashville and Chattanooga recycling plants collect recovered fiber from vendors within a 50 mile radius of the plants. The material is baled and shipped to be used at trade mills.
