ModCan™ Launch – A Conversation with the Inventor

ModCan Launch – A sit down with the innovative product’s inventor, Shawn Coleman

ModCan is taking off after its successful debut at Pack Expo in Chicago last year. Feedback has been encouraging, and the product’s use cases are seemingly endless.

During the product launch, we had the opportunity to meet Shawn Coleman and discuss how the innovative product came to be.

About ModCan

ModCan™ was born in a lab to ease the burdens of lab waste. Invented by an independent lab owner, Shawn Coleman, ModCan enhances ergonomic benefits and reduces indirect greenhouse gas emissions in lab environments.

Ergonomics

These containers, with a capacity of 3.75 gallons, are significantly lighter, weighing 31 pounds when filled with water, compared to the 42 pounds of a 5-gallon carboy. This 11-pound difference per container can dramatically reduce the physical strain on employees, lowering the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

Reduces greenhouse gas emissions

The triangular shape of ModCan allows for more efficient packing within 55-gallon drums, reducing the number of drums needed and, consequently, the frequency of waste pickups. Reducing waste pickups can decrease indirect greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a more sustainable waste management practice.

Maximizing space

Additionally, the improved space utilization of the ModCan system leads to significant cost savings in waste management, making the containers a practical and efficient solution for lab environments. Their unique design makes them easy to stack and store, but most importantly, they use 82% of a standard drum. The old Carboy method uses less than half the capacity of a typical 55-gallon drum.

With ModCan, you can do more within your existing processes.
