NexDRUM® plastic drum
The NexDRUM® plastic drum is produced with 15 percent less material than the standard blow molded plastic drum produced at Greif. The new drum design was created through an innovative injection and welding production process that works with less material inputs, without negatively affecting the performance and stability of the drum.
NexDRUM is manufactured through a process that provides excellent durability maximizing consistency in diameter, wall thickness and weight using less resin. Despite its lighter weight, it is sturdier and handles the rigors of stacking better than traditional plastic drums. NexDRUM was designed for easier handling. Its straight body has virtually no variations in diameter or wall thickness, and meets the most stringent demands of chemical compatibility with hazardous and non-hazardous products.
The unique production method also results in a 15 percent CO2 emissions reduction compared with conventional drums. If all the world’s filling companies were to change over to the NexDRUM, the amount of CO2 emissions that could be saved would be equivalent to that produced by all the inhabitants of Hamburg, Germany over the same period.
GCUBE™ Rigid Intermediate Bulk Container
The new GCUBE™ IBC features a patented valve design that puts only one material in contact with the filling goods, which assures high chemical resistance, eliminates the need for interior gaskets and O-rings and reduces the probability of failure or leakages. GCube units comply with applicable UN/ DOT regulations.
DoubleGreen™ COEX 10 Liter Jerry Can
Our team in Brazil developed one of the first sustainable multilayer 10-liter plastic jerry cans made from a renewable resource with a stackable design that eliminates the need to use additional packaging for transportation.
The DoubleGreen COEX 10-liter plastic jerry can incorporates polyethylene that is derived from sugarcane ethanol and exceeds 50 percent of the total packaging composition. It is also UN certified and achieves higher SKU utilization as one truck can deliver an additional 1,000 liters.
The DoubleGreen COEX 10 liter jerry can reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 220 tons annually in addition to saving approximately 112 tons of paper. Furthermore, the elimination of carton packaging from transportation is estimated to save 3,643 trees and avoid 23 tons of excess CO2 emissions.
DoubleGreen™ MONO 20 Liter Jerry Can
Our team in Brazil developed the first 20 liter monolayer packaging for agrochemicals weighing less than 1 kg (980g). It is UN certified and the weight reduction translates into fewer raw materials for production while preserving the mechanical strength required for stacking. Packaging weight reduction also translates into a CO2 emissions reduction of approximately 42 tons per year.
Chromium 3 Passivation
Chromium passivation is the top layer of our zinc-plated closures. It is key for corrosion resistance and the adhesion of the lacquer on the product. The standard method of passivation, Chromium 6 passivation, used by all in the industry has negative affects on both the environment and health of workers.
Greif's packaging accessories subsidiary, Tri-Sure® Closures, has led the way in our industry and developed a new plating process, Chromium 3 passivation, to apply a thin protective layer on top of the zinc plating of our closures, which provides class-leading corrosion resistance. This process improves product performance, is better for the environment and safer for our employees than the old process.
All Tri-Sure manufacturing plants will soon be standardized on Chromium 3 passivation.
