Peace One Day
Founded in 1999 by filmmaker Jeremy Gilley, the non-profit organization Peace One Day drove the initiative that led to the unanimous adoption by the United Nations member states of an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September – Peace Day.
With the day in place, Peace One Day's objective is to institutionalize Peace Day around the world, making it self- sustaining. Peace One Day has launched a series of Peace Day coalitions and runs a number of campaigns to further awareness and engagement on Peace Day.
In 2014, Greif is supporting Peace One Day and Peace Day 2014 in three ways:
- As a member of the Peace One Day Corporate Coalition. Our program sponsorship provides funding for Peace One Day’s ongoing lifesaving activities.
- By donating products. Peace is not possible without access to basic essentials like clean water. Greif donated 6,000 PackH2O water backpacks to help people in the Democratic Republic of Congo keep water safe and clean while transporting it from the source to their homes.
- By empowering employees: We agree with Peace One Day that peace starts with individual actions. We empowered and encouraged our 16,000 employees around the world to collectively create more than 100,000 touch points, or acts of peace, to promote peace in their personal lives, families, communities and workplaces.
